G2 Coach Job Position

JOB DESCRIPTION: The G2 coach works to implement Guardian Dance Company’s mission to cultivate healthy communities by practicing, performing and passing on African American culture through dance by providing instruction and professional development opportunities to the cohort of G2 students (the youth company for Guardian Dance Company).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide movement and history instruction to 3-5 classes per day in Lindy Hop, West African Dance, Breaking, Swing Dance, Vernacular Jazz, Locking, and/or Baltimore Club.

  • Support a workforce development program by training young dancers in teaching skills.

  • Coach and build a team of dancers.  

  • Participate in Professional Development and Continuing Education Classes to further technical skill;

  • Uphold Guardian’s mission, goals, philosophy and standards;

  • Work a part-time position of 20 hours weekly, and keep a written record of the use of those hours as a condition of your compensation;

    • These 20 hours should include 5 hours of movement rehearsal, 1 hour of Professional Development for the G2 students, 1 hour of Professional Development for yourself, 6 hours of shadowing with other duties, as assigned, 4 hours of co-teaching with G2 students and 3 hours of planning time.

  • Design and Implement a Professional Development Curriculum;

  • Assess student progress and keep a written log of performance data;

  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students with varying levels of ability;

  • Manage Student Behavior;

  • Keep daily lesson plans;

  • Meet with another/ a team of other coaches for collaborative planning;

  • Communicate with BCPSS or other school staff to remain abreast of the progress of MH and G2 students;

  • Implement Progressive, Project-Based curriculum;

  • Connect curriculum with the mission and vision of Guardian Dance Company;

  • Organize and implement quarterly exhibitions of student work;

  • Train and mentor G2 students;

  • Build positive community culture through the design and implementation of annual events which invite residents, neighbors, parents and friends to participate in G2 and MH programming;

  • Design set, costumes, music, video and lighting for the production;

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to execute each requirement with excellence. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability needed for the position.

  • Knowledge of African American Vernacular Repertoire including, but not limited to one or more of the following: Lindy Hop, Breaking, East Coast Swing, 30’s Jazz, Locking, Baltimore Club, West African Dance;

  • Comprehensive knowledge of African American history and its connection to social dances;

  • Organization;

  • Proficiency in imovie or other video production software;

  • Classroom Management Skills;

  • Curriculum Development abilities;

  • Flexibility;

  • Time Management;

  • A Full Season’s commitment, beginning in June 2019

Hourly Compensation: $50/hr
